When Gracie was little I would read her stories from the Bible all the time. Sometimes it was hard to find stories that were written on her level. I loved to read her children’s Bible stories. She loved looking at the pictures while I read. I think that was the best part for her. The Spirit Of God Illustrated Bible has over 40 great stories of God’s Power and Presence along with the most wonderful illustrations included.
I believe as you are reading the stories (or as you taking turns reading along with your child), the pictures are what will hold your child’s attention. The illustrations are just precious. The seem to just jump out at you. I found myself just looking at the the images. I thought they were amazing. I think MOST children would love them.
My favorite story as always in any children’s Bible is Daniel. I know a lot of people are drawn to David, but I am to Daniel. I just like how unsure a King was (King Nebuchadnezzar) and he relied on a common young man (Daniel) that God was speaking through. He was interpreting the Kings dreams and the King realized God was the greatest of all gods. The illustrations in this story is very good here, although my camera just doesn’t do book photo’s justice.
The Spirit Of God Illustrated Bible is written in story form and I feel that it will be a great bonding time for you and your child. The stories start with “In The Beginning” with Genesis and goes thru the entire Bible telling different stories even up to the day of “Pentecost”. One of the ending pages has a boy kneeling with the text on the opposite page that says- “When God calls you to do something great for him, you don’t have to worry about being alone. God will send his Spirit to be with you and give you the strength, confidence and power to get the job done. Just as the Spirit aided people in the Bible to do extraordinary things for God, he will do that for you today. Invite Jesus into your heart and the Spirit will follow–giving you the ability to great things for God. ”
I really feel like this is a great Children’s Bible. Although, I think it would be awesome for most children around the ages 4-8, it would be good for even new Christians. I honestly would have started reading this illustrated Bible to Gracie before she was 4. I do believe these short Bible stories would have held her attention prior to 4. We just loved reading together. I highly suggest you visit The Spirit Of God Illustrated Bible’s homepage and view a sampler.
