What are your thoughts on driving and using your cellphone? A few days ago I was driving from my home to the school pick up line. Every driver beside me, behind me or in front of me had a phone in their ear or was texting while driving.
Guess what, one of the drivers nearly knocked off my rear end while trying to go around me. Also, a van (that was on their cell) beside me hit a car so hard that they had to call the Jaws Of Life. I live about 5 miles from school. So much can happen in 5 miles.
Driving while on a cellphone is dangerous. 26% of all car crashes in 2014 involved 2014. Would you be surprised that texting and driving is the leading cause of death of teenagers? Texting involves three areas of distraction- visual (your eyes aren’t on the road), manual (your hands aren’t on the steering wheel) and Cognitive (your focus isn’t where it’s supposed to be). I pulled this information from DMV.org.
I have drilled into Gracie’s head how distracting a cellphone can be while driving. She’s not allowed to touch her cell while driving. We just bought her a car and she will LOSE her car if we catch her using her cellphone. I don’t want her to be one of these statistics. Losing Gracie would break my heart and I know it would break your heart to lose one of your children. To be honest though, it wasn’t teens that I saw on phones the day I was driving to school, it was middle aged women and older (older) women.
Children, (teens) mimic what they see us doing. If we have our cellphones plastered to our ears while driving or we are texting away, they will be doing the same! Let’s start teaching our children to “do as we do, not as we say” from now on. Maybe the life we save, might just be our own.
