It’s not much of a secret among the family, but I’m scared to death of fireworks. We already have fireworks stands out in our area and each time I drive by one, I get a little sick to my stomach.
It started when I was little. Mother and Dad would give us $15 to spend at the fireworks stand. I would spend all my money there, but I would let my brother shoot all my fireworks. I would sit on the porch and watch. I usually ended up running and hiding in the house if one tilted towards the porch. Louie always thought that was kind of funny. I wasn’t amused at all.
There came a time where I didn’t have to deal with fireworks at all. We had outgrown them at home, then I married Don. Gosh, we didn’t have Gracie for 8 years so I had quite a long break from fireworks. Don thought Gracie needed fireworks though. Honestly, Don wanted the fireworks for himself. Gracie liked them, A LOT, but Don enjoyed them much more.
Last year was the first year that we had to try to shoot off fireworks without Don. I had NEVER shot off fireworks before. I did my best but I was a nervous wreck. I was really convinced that I was going to set my house on fire. I was so happy when Gracie would want to do her sparklers and those snap and pops. Those two I can handle.
Gracie has informed me this year that she is only buying snap and pops. She likes them because if they don’t get popped right off the bat, they scare BigFoot when he goes outside if he steps on them. She’s just like Don Sparks! Regardless, I’m proud she realizes I can’t handle the fireworks and is taking an easy on me. I love my life with Gracie Sparks and wouldn’t trade it for the world!
Don’t tell anyone about the fireworks! It’s a secret 🙂
