Anyone who has been reading Sonya’s Happenings… at all knows that we have been looking for a car for Gracie. She recently turned 16 and she will be needing one soon. In Arkansas though, you have to drive with a licensed driver for 6 months until you can drive by yourself. So, I am taking my time.
I have been researching (and looking) at cars for her. I want a very safe car, by the way this just happens to be Car Safety Week. One that is good on gas is a must, that’s just it. I also want one that has a smaller backseat, not because of what some of you may think. I want it smaller, so other kids will be uncomfortable and not want to ride in the back. She doesn’t need the distractions. The less teens in her car, the better. Cars.com has been a great wealth of information for me.
We have all three agreed on a Chevrolet Spark, and hopefully that is what we will get in the end. She loves them. I think it has something to do with her name being “Sparks”. No, really, she really does like them. Michael and I both do too. I think one will be great on gas mileage. I’m thinking of college. I know a Spark will get her through college just fine.
I have worried myself silly over Gracie driving and buying a car for her. I think the best thing a parent can do is chill out and do the best you can on teaching them to drive. Research the the type of car that your family wants your teen to drive. All you can do then is trust that child, just like your parents trusted you.
