***Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with access to talent from the film, Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase. The opinions I share are my own***
I was one of several bloggers that were able to interview Sophia Lillis by phone in March. Sophia is the star of Nancy Drew And The Hidden Staircase. I was thrilled because I grew up loving to read Nancy Drew. Gracie was SO excited because she LOVES Sophia Lillis. We were both happy campers at my house.
We were allotted 30 minutes with Sophia and I enjoyed every minute. She seemed like a very sweet girl and she laughed and giggled quite often. I thought of Gracie several times while listening to her answer our questions. After talking with her, I’m very excited to see what this young lady does next in her career.Let me get into some of the things that the group decided to ask about.
We wanted to know if she grew up reading the Nancy Drew collection. She said she hadn’t but she had started reading the series since the movie. Her favorite book so far is the 5th one, about the Lilac Inn. Sophia said she read when she was younger so she could keep up with her brother. Her favorite book was Never Ending Story.
Sophia told us that there were a few differences between the book and the movie. Nancy used more technology gadgets. She traveled by skateboard and she had more of a relationship with her Dad. I REALLY liked that the writers incorporated the closeness of the relationship of Nancy and her Dad. Family time and family relationships are big to me, so I’m very proud of this. From watching the film, they did keep in contact and even used facetime. Gracie and I don’t even use facetime. Gosh, we need to keep up!
When asked her favorite part of playing Nancy Drew, Sophia stated that it was such a light-hearted character and she was able to put a lot of herself into it. Sophia said she was a little nervous playing Nancy because she is such an iconic character. She said she would love to do another family-friendly movie.
When asked if she is as independent as Nancy, she said she felt she was. Sophia feels that growing up in New York really helped. She also revealed that one of the challenges of playing Nancy was – she was the main character. She had to be there every day plus keep up with the demands of school. Speaking of school, she mentioned that the other students in her school really don’t have negative attitudes towards her acting. No one really asks her questions or anything. One of the bloggers asked Sophia what she felt was her superpower, she thought that it was the ability to memorize scripts quickly.
Sophia’s advice to other’s summed up would be to “Follow Your Passion”. She also gave tips on friendship. She said she has a small tight group of friends. They meet up a lot. She stressed that it’s important to be yourself and to be comfortable with your own group.
Her role model in acting is – get this– Bill Murray! I was surprised by this, I’m not even quite sure why this surprises me. She admires him because he is free and loves doing what he wants. She wants to be the female Bill Murray, lol.
As I mentioned earlier, I thought a lot about Gracie during this interview. The giggles and laughter brought Gracie immediately to my mind. Sophia’s Mom was in the room during the interview and I feel like I would be too if Gracie was in Sophia’s shoes.
