I’ve never been afraid to express how mine and Gracie’s faith has gotten us through SO much. We would not have gotten through Don’s death at all. Learning to live on our own after losing her Dad and my husband of 18 years was horrible. We relied on God’s grace and love to get us through the hardest time (so far) in our lives.
I was really worried after Don passed away that Gracie would look to the world for “beauty and acceptance”. A female losing their father is very hard on your mind when there are no other male influences in their lives. I know this because I lost my Dad when I was 14. Gracie was only 11. Gracie has looked up to the Lord and kept in mind what her Dad would want for her.
God’s relationship is not a one way road though. It takes work. Work on your part, listening and relying on God. He will always provide in His time and He always provided for us. Gracie and I read our Bible and love working through Devotionals. I have been sent “Adored- 365 Devotions For Young Women by Zondervan.”
I checked out these devotionals before I allowed Gracie to look at them. They are written in a language that a teenage girl will actually “read”. The words are words that they would actually use themselves. That will keep Gracie interested. I looked at the devotional and she is really using it daily. I’m very proud of her. It goes over dating, bullying (she’s already experienced this) and social media. All subjects that she will be going thru (or is).
