I don’t have a lot of nice jewelry. Most of it is costume jewelry, it doesn’t really cost that much. I’m not really that worried about caring for it or cleaning it. I do have a few pieces that are very important to me though.
I have my engagement ring and wedding ring. I also have the prettiest ring that Don gave me for my birthday before we were married. It’s blue topaz and has 5 stones. I love it! I’m sure it didn’t cost a lot, but it means a lot to me. I also have Don’s wedding ring, I wear it though. It’s the only one that I wear all the time. I had it sized down to fit my middle finger. That way I feel I have Don with me every day. I have a couple of others that cost a little bit, but they don’t mean very much to me.
I have the engagement ring and wedding ring put up in a safe. I want them put up for Gracie. Mother passed her wedding rings down to Amanda and me. I want to do the same for Gracie. She might not even want it, either way, they are safe. When I went to get Don’s band re-sized the jeweler tried to talk me into making my ring into a pendant. I just couldn’t do it. I knew that I could still wear my “ring” that way, but I didn’t want to do it.
Don’s ring looked rough when I took it in to be sized down. It was scratched and messy. When the jewelry store sized it, they cleaned it up nicely. It looked great. Men are hard on rings! It’s been a few months since I started wearing this and I’ve noticed that I need to find a way to keep it clean. An ultrasonic cleaner might be my answer. That way I could take care of the cleaning at home and not worry about leaving my ring at a jewelry store. I’m always afraid it will be lost. This would alleviate a lot of my fears. What do you use to clean your jewelry?

Sonya,
I think wearing Don’s ring is an excellent idea. That is great that you were able to have it sized down. I’m glad the jewelers were able to clean it up for you.

Thanks Bobbie Anne,
I just wanted a part of Don with me everyday and my rings were getting too big. I could have had them sized but it was time (emotionally) to take them off. I was ready then. I may never be ready to take off Don’s wedding band. That’s ok though
